LESSONS

Most students will need a half-hour lesson each week. Advanced students, or those studying both piano and flute, or taking extra Theory work, will need longer lessons.

Lessons are held during school terms, including Student-Free Days.

Lesson are not held during school holidays or public holidays.

Punctuality

Everybody is busy these days and nobody likes to be kept waiting.  I try very hard to keep my lessons right on time.  If you are late I cannot run your lesson over into the next half-hour as this is just not fair to those who have their lesson after you, so punctuality is very important.

What to bring to your lesson

Flute students, obviously, need to bring their flute.  However, if you do forget your flute, or if your flute is at the repair shop, you may use one of mine for the duration of your lesson.

Theory students need to bring a small ruler, a sharpened 2B pencil and a soft eraser.

All students need to bring all their music, any Theory homework they may have had for the week, as well as their EXERCISE BOOK.

The exercise book is an important tool of communication between myself and the student/parents.  Each lesson I will write the work we have covered, what the student needs to practice during the coming week, and hints and tips on how to better practice their pieces.  The student or parent is welcome to write in the exercise book as well - any questions you may have during the weekly practice, please write it in the book so you don't forget to ask me at your next lesson.

What if the student is sick or on holidays?

Naturally, a sick student should be kept in the comfort of their home and will not be in any mood to be learning.  And just as naturally, there will be times when a family holiday or a school camp will clash with the student's lesson day/time.

The key here is communication.  You will need to notify me at least 24hours in advance in the case of illness in order to qualify for a catch-up lesson.  In the case of family holidays or school camps etc... I prefer at least a week's notice. That way it may be possible for the student to have their catch-up lesson before they leave.  Otherwise, toward the end of the term I will let you know when I am available for catch-up lessons.

Catch-Up Lessons

If you have missed a lesson due to illness or another reason, and have notified my 24hours in advance, I will organise a Catch-up Lesson.  These may take place on a different day and time to your usual lesson, although I will do my best to fit in with your schedule.

Catch-Up lessons must be taken before the end of the term.

I will endeavor to give you at least two options for a Catch-Up lesson.
